Staff Session of Combatting Imposter Syndrome
When you succeed, do you secretly feel like you fooled people again? Do you attribute your successes to luck or good timing? Do you believe others overestimate your abilities, and it’s only a matter of time before they figure it out? These are signs of Imposter Syndrome. Imposter Syndrome is very common among high achievers, and it occurs when people are unable to internalize their accomplishments. This interactive workshop will provide an overview of Imposter Syndrome, common thoughts among those with Imposter Syndrome, and examples of how Imposter Syndrome impacts behavior and careers. Strategies will be offered on how to overcome or address impostor thoughts. Even if you do not have Imposter Syndrome yourself, it is important to understand to better support others who do have it, such as colleagues, students, and mentees.
